Artefacts in Postmortem Examinations
Abstract
Artefacts encountered during the course of medical-legal investigation-at the autopsy table, in the chemistry and toxicology ; aboratories, and even on microscopic slidesmust be recognized and appreciated foi what they are. This is not always as easy as it might seem to be, for some artefacts can simulate a real pathological or physiological change so closely that it might be extremely difficult, if not impossible, for even the most skilled and expert of forensic pathologists and other forensic scientists to recognize the difference. Frequently, re-examination and subsequent evaluation are required in order to fully understand and appreciate the existence of an artefact.
